The National Regulators Community of Practice’s 2020 learning activities frequently referenced the vital importance of appropriate, regular and well targeted communications as part of building trust and confidence and retaining social licence. We all know we need to engage effectively with our authorising environment, our duty holders and the communities directly affected by duty holders’ conduct

But what about the citizenry at large, many of whom may have only the most hazy, mistaken or negative understanding of what we do and why? Our speaker Michelle Bryne brings deep insights and an awe-inspiring track record on using Comms across multiple platforms, reputation management and engagement management to transform community awareness, engagement and respect.

This webinar features:

- Michelle Bryne, Head of Strategic Communication, Essential Services Commission (Victoria)

After working as a journalist in Sydney’s competitive commercial radio market in the 1990s, Michelle took off the headphones to put on a flak jacket in defence of local government, followed by successful stints in NSW infrastructure, NSW public health, Victorian gambling awareness and the Victorian Essential Services Commission. With a Masters in Communication, she has demonstrated she can transform organisations’ reputations through a combination of multi-platform Comms, reputation management and engagement management.

And is facilitated by:

- Ian Caplin, Principal Advisor, NZ Government Regulatory Practice Initiative

Ian is on secondment to G-Reg from Inland Revenue, where he has led across a range of advisory, policy, media, management, internal risk and business transformation roles. Across government, Ian has contributed to many aspects of G-Reg’s development since its inception and has produced, moderated and facilitated every G-Reg conference for the past six years. Ian also brings a legal and broadcasting background from London, where he worked as a legal commentator for the BBC, Sky, CNN and ITV, while producing and presenting the Law Channel.
