In the House of Commons, members of Parliament take part in an emergency debate on the imminent shutdown of Enbridge’s Line 5 pipeline, which carries crude oil and natural gas from Alberta to eastern Canada by way of the United States. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, citing environmental concerns, has ordered the line to be shut down by May 12, 2021. The debate in the House comes following a request by Blake Richards, the Conservative MP for Banff–Airdrie, Alta.
